<p>We curated a 17-day Design Trainee Program for college students from PolyU School of Design Interactive Media specialism from February 15 to April 14. The program was initiated by our Design Team and focused on a real-case project of developing an app for the elderly. Four trainees - Pui Ting, Charles, Karina, and Jasmine - were selected from a group of six students to participate in the program. Mentors from the Design Team, Anna and Zoe were the students companions in the journey. Let's check out their 17 days of immersive journey and connect with their valuable experience!</p><h3>First Impression of GreenTomato</h3><p>The trainees admitted to not knowing much about our culture or work style before joining the program. They had heard rumours that our internal design team was a bit "CHUR" (which means intense pressure in Cantonese). However, as soon as they started learning UI/UX design skills, they realised that the workload and teaching content were manageable. The working environment was so relaxed, unlike the rumours they had heard.</p><h3>Incredible experience to be a trainee</h3><p>Throughout the program, the trainees received feedback and guidance from their mentors. Charles discovered his passion for becoming a UX/UI designer and built up some great work habits. Karina honed her skills and gained specific knowledge that would help her get a seat in the industry. Jasmine had some eye-opening realizations about her own strengths and weaknesses.</p><p>The trainees loved working with colleagues like Sandra and Tammy, and appreciated the beautiful scenery around them. They did wish the program was a bit longer - maybe 5 days a week for a month? They felt it was a great internship experience. Pui Ting was given the Best Trainee Award, and Jasmine was recognized as the Rising Star to appreciate their efforts during this period.</p><p>The program was incredibly valuable for the trainees, and they enjoyed the collaborative atmosphere by sharing the same goal of creating an awesome app. We received valuable feedback from them about how to create a better program in the future.</p><h3>Coming to the end...</h3><p>To improve our program experience, we hosted a feedback session with the trainees. They provided us with some useful suggestions for how to make “Extra 1% better” for the program in the future, and they were all excited about the possibility of working with GreenTomato again. Charles, especially, was convinced that GreenTomato was the perfect fit for him. Last but not least, the trainees have become good friends during the program - a win-win situation!</p><p>We are looking forward to seeing them again and wish them all the best in their future endeavors!</p>
